I recently bumped into an old friend and she was wearing a really cool vintage cameo ring.  I don't know why I don't often think of Cameo Rings when I'm deciding how to doll myself up for the day.    I think something in my head kept saying, "Cameo rings are for Grandmothers".  Well, I was wrong.  The way she pulled it off it was more like she was some timeless character out of an Anne Rice novel or something.  Sort of like new gothic or something?  Anyway, whatever it was, it just worked.  So, I started the morning looking for vintage cameo rings and then I found this amazing collection from Michal Negrin.  Take a peak, you are going to love it!

You know how the e-mail starts, right?  "We noticed that people looking for blah might also be interested in bleh."  It's the standard nearly-daily e-mail you get from Amazon telling you about new stuff that you can't live without.  Well, in my case, with regards to jewelry, it's almost the equivalent of offering free heroin to a recovering addict.  Heck yes I'm interested!  It's jewelry, isn't it?!  So, today Amazon was telling me about Trina Turk jewelry and I jumped on it so quick that I nearly spilled my morning coffee (Irish, of course).

I'm digging this line!  It reminds of something your grandmother might where while on vacation in Florida.  Only, back when she was wild and crazy.  You know, wearing outrageous sunglasses and drinking from a tiny flask before going out for a night of dancing and gambling with Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Junior.  I guess what I'm saying is that it feels vintage and hip and I'm digging it!  Here, check some of the rings out.

So, I was inspired by @melange4d's great button rings last week so I went hunting around Amazon for something similar.  I mean, I actually wasn't expecting much, because it seems like more of a crafting sort of thing, but you never know, right?  Anyway, as you probably know, I have the attention span of a squirrel.  I start doing something and then if something shiny flies by I'm chasing it.  So, I'm sure it comes as no surprise to you that I got distracted about 2 minutes into my button ring search.  But, I think it was a good distraction.  This Sterling Silver and Marcasite Button Dome Ring is pretty cute!

In case you were wondering what Marcasite is, it's a sort of crystal that's related to Pyrite.  But, when folks describe gems in  jewelry as Marcasite, they actually mean Pyrite because Pyrite is really brittle.  Anyway, it has a really unique look.  Almost like a smoky quartz or something.  Here, take a peak:

I saw a picture of this cute little ring today and I just had to post it to my blog.  I had just watched the Hayao Miyazaki  movie, Ponyo, over the weekend and this ring seemed like something right out of that movie.  Or maybe one of his other great movies like Spirited Away or Totoro.  It's just adorable!

Also, it seems like it could either grant wishes or give you some sort of magical powers.  Heh... ok, maybe that's a little much, but it definitely has extra cuteness powers.  I guess I'm going to have to start looking at more jewelry from Eternal Sparkles.  If this ring is any indication, then they must have some really great stuff!

Today's ring adventure started out a little differently.  Usually I just wander around Amazon until something strikes my fancy and then it all goes from there.  Today, I woke up remembering Puzzle Rings.  See, growing up my best friend had a rough, world-traveling uncle.  To us he seemed like Indiana Jones or something.  He always had some sort of "tough guy" job like working on an oil rig or crewing a ship or fighting sharks.  (Ok, that last one might be an exaggeration).  As a result of all his travels, he had all sorts of neat little treasures that he bought along the way.

His puzzle ring was, to us, like some sort of other-worldly treasure.  I think his was made of 13 different pieces?  He would show it to us, but never let us touch it because he said it was so difficult to assemble the ring.  Of course we bugged him like crazy to just touch it a teensie bit.  Finally, he relented and, in under three seconds, we had somehow accidentally taken it apart.  I just remember watching as this beautiful jewelry treasure transformed into a bunch of tiny hoops right before our eyes.  Whoops.

Don't worry, he was able to get the ring back together.... several hours later.
